Climate-responsive greening for a liveable and equitable city

 

Warsaw is building on its commitment to climate adaptation and sustainable urban development by integrating nature-based solutions into district-level regeneration strategies. The city aims to enhance environmental performance, increase access to green spaces and co-create inclusive, people-centered public spaces.

The pilot is led by Miasto Stołeczne Warszawa (City of Warsaw), working alongside national and local partners to design and implement solutions that respond to social and environmental priorities.

 

Focus areas

Warsaw's pilot activities focus on:

   ▸ Using nature-based solutions to improve thermal comfort and manage stormwater

   ▸ Addressing spatial and social inequalities through greening strategies

   ▸ Enhancing the multifunctionality of public spaces

   ▸ Engaging residents in co-design processes to ensure relevance and long-term use

Pilot demonstrator

The Warsaw demonstrator will be implemented in a district facing combined environmental and social challenges. The pilot will test innovative greening interventions designed to respond to local needs and contribute to broader city resilience goals.

Demonstrator features will include:

   ▸ Participatory workshops and stakeholder co-creation activities

   ▸ Green infrastructure that delivers climate, health and social co-benefits

   ▸ Integrated monitoring of ecosystem services and user satisfaction
